Olive Winegar Campbell was born in Ellensburg, WA on Dec. 12, 1909 to James and Clara Meinecke Winegar, the third of eight children. The family moved to Buhl, Idaho when Olive was four years old. One of Olive’s best memories of her early years in Buhl was racing her pony, always defeating the neighbor kids who thought they had a fast horse.
After completing her schooling in Buhl, Olive bobbed her hair, learned to dance the Charleston, and went off to college. She graduated from Graceland College in 1930, and then moved to Montana where she taught at Iron Springs School. During that year she met and married Orville Campbell.
Olive and Orville farmed on Sarpy Creek for several years before moving to Hysham and Pease Bottom. Olive was active in Hysham Community Presbyterian Church, Women’s Club, Senior Citizen’s Council, and many other civic organizations.
Olive was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orville, three brothers, four sisters, and two grandchildren.
Olive is survived by her children Barbara Coyle, Newport, Oregon; Walter (Edna) Campbell, Wichita, Kansas; Bob Campbell, Bozeman, Montana; David (Judi) Campbell, Salem, Oregon; 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. Even with so many she never forgot a birthday or anniversary!
Olive would like to be remembered for her Parker House rolls and white fudge, as well as being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Olive believed it was important to help those in need, to be active in the community, and to do so with grace and compassion. Print this post
