Monty Smith

June 7, 1973 - April 29, 2014

Monty was taken from this earth on April 29, 2014 resulting from a motorcycle accident in Orofino, Idaho. A car, driven by an 84-year-old woman was eastbound on US 12 when she began to turn around on State Highway 7 across a bridge. Police said she did not see 40-year-old Monty on his motorcycle and turned in front of him and collided with him. In a blink of an eye he went to be with his Maker.

He was born June 7, 1973 in Lewistown, Montana; within nine weeks of his birth he became the son of the proud parents, Robert and Vickie Smith joining a brother, Donald Smith.

His bubbling personality was a breath of fresh air with lots of sunshine. He loved people and wanted to make them laugh, which he did well because his life was rich in friends.

He attended Hysham Public Schools and Forsyth High School. He was an avid golfer, excelled in drama, speech and choir.
Monty had many jobs which included maintenance on school buses, waiting tables at M&M Pizza in Forsyth, convenience clerk at V-1, bartender at JC, and grounds keeper for Forsyth Country Club. Monty always had time for his friends, bowling and golfing.

After graduation he went to May Technical College in Billings, Mont. His voice was heard on KIKC radio station located in Forsyth and also worked as an announcer in Riverton, Wyo.

Fate called him to Orofino, Idaho where he made his home until his death. His current employer was N & N Machine. Everywhere he worked he made more friends.

Monty was active in AA, which was his second family. He was dedicated to the program helping many people while healing himself. He touched and made a difference in so many lives.

He married Holly Stanton and to this union a son, Ian Daly Smith, was born.

He leaves behind his son Ian of seven years, his mother Vickie Krause, and step-father Dennis Krause, of Forsyth, special friend, Jessie Noah and her family, and many many friends and relatives.

Preceded in death was his Dad, Robert Smith, Grandfather Wilbur Smith, and his beloved Granny, Dixie Kenney.
A memorial will be held to celebrate his life May 16 at 4:00 p.m. at the Haugo Center in Forsyth, Montana. In Orofino, Idaho on June 7th will be another celebration.

In memory of Monty a Special Need Trust will be set up at First State Bank for his son Ian Smith. Contributions can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital. Print this post
