Perris, California - Joseph M. Herrera went home to be with the Lord and was surrounded by his family.
Joseph M. Herrera was born in Heaton, New Mexico. He graduated from Hysham High School, Montana, on May 18, 1939. Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country for 6 years. He achieved the rate of Radioman First Class. After his discharge from the Navy, Joseph married and moved to Los Angeles.
He worked for the Los Angeles County’s South Coast Air Quality Management District as an Air Pollution Inspector and retired after 28 years of service.
He had fond memories of growing up in Hysham and looked forward to attending the annual class reunions held there.
Joseph was preceded by his wife Teresa in 1999. He is survived by his three children: Eligia, Luisa, and Joseph Jr; his son-in-law, Jaime, and his daughter-in-law, Teresa. He was a beloved Grandfather to Francis and Joseph IV Herrera. Other surviving family members include his sisters Pauline Gutierrez and Vicenta Cypress.
The celebration of his life took place on August 13, 2010. Family and friends gathered together to remember a father, uncle, neighbor and best friend.
The family wishes to thank VITAS HOSPICE for all the wonderful and compassionate care they provided. In lieu of flowers or cards, the family suggests donations to Vitas Hospice Charity Fund in memory of Joseph M. Herrera. Donations can be made through www.vitascharityfund.org or by calling 877-800 2951.
