Hysham Echo Newspaper

The Hysham Echo Newspaper has been published since Nov. 28, 1911 for Treasure County, Montana.

The Echo has undergone many changes over the years and I was honored to be the editor at the time it turned 100.

Each week I will publish the recipes and Page from the Past and the obits as soon as I receive them.

Frieda Louise (Deines) Woelich

Frieda Louise (Deines) Woelich, age 80, of Hysham passed away and went to be with our Lord on Friday May 28, 2010 in Billings, MT.  Frieda was born on May 6, 1930 to George and Lydia Deines at their home near Billings, MT.  She grew up and attended elementary school in Leiter, WY, then on to Dayton, WY where she graduated high school in 1947.  Frieda enrolled and graduated from Heiman’s business college in Sheridan, WY, before accepting employment with the Monarch Coal mine near Sheridan.

Later the First National Bank of Sheridan employed her as a teller.  She met and married Marvin E. (Dick) Woelich on December 9, 1950 in Sheridan, WY.  Marvin was working in the oil fields and they moved to where the work was as they raised their four children and enjoyed life.  They eventually settled on Sarpy road near Hysham MT, where they built a home and started a successful water-well business after leaving the oil industry.  Frieda served as bookkeeper, office manager, and vice president of the company.  In 1987, they purchased a local café in Hysham, and she spent many long hours operating the café in addition to helping with the water well business.  She enjoyed meeting and making many friends in the community.  In 1989, they lost her youngest son Robert in a trucking accident and temporarily closed the café.  They again opened the café but decided to sell it in or around the year 2000, so she could focus on her garden, home, and family.

Raised with love, in devout Lutheran home, Frieda knew the Lord at a very early age.  Baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, she loved the Lord and her faith was always strong.  She read the Bible regularly and would turn to the Lord when she had problems.  Frieda was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hysham.

In addition to her parents, her husband Dick and son Robert preceded Frieda in death.
She is survived by her sons: Lyle (Alethea) Woelich of Casper WY, Richard (Cindy) Woelich of Forsyth MT, and George (Sabina) Woelich of Bighorn MT.  She is also survived by a sister Leona Overlin – Oregon, and two brothers; Walt (Darlene) Deines - California, George (Joyce) Deines – Arizona, along with 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.

Services planned for Wednesday June 2, 2010 in the Concordia Lutheran Church – Forsyth at 2:00 p.m.  Interment will be in the Forsyth Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church – Hysham, Concordia Lutheran Church – Forsyth, or the charity of your choice.
Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth has been entrusted with these arrangements and condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.stevensonandsons.com Print this post
